Liam Fox on back foot as emails emerge in 'adviser' controversy

At 9.55am on Friday June 17 Werritty replies to Boulter to tell him he would prefer to have the meeting at the hotel on the "41st floor lounge", the Guardian newspaper reported.

Dr Fox told the BBC that the meeting was "not that unusual," adding: "But these questions are reasonable questions for people to ask and I don't mind that. That is what you get in a democratic society.

"I think it is right that we look into the details of them, that is why I asked a senior official in the MoD to look into that, and of course, I will stand by whatever the findings are."

Dr Fox said he was on his way home from Afghanistan when the travelling party stopped over at an airbase in Dubai, "as we normally do, we quite often transit to switch on to civilian airliners".

The Prime Minister has tasked Sir Gus O'Donnell, head of the civil service, with bringing him the initial findings of the inquiry into Dr Fox's working relationship with former flatmate Adam Werritty. Mr Cameron wants the report on his desk by Monday.
