Rental Scam Alert
A warning to anyone searching for an overseas rental property – there are individuals falsely and illegally claiming connections to FindaProperty.com and seeking to charge tenants a deposit before they have moved in or signed a rental contract.
During what is clearly a scam operation, a person claiming to be the UK-based owner of an overseas property is offering their foreign home for medium or long-term rent and asking tenants to pay a deposit to an escrow account, which they claim is somehow guaranteed or underwritten by ‘FindaProperty’.
The sting was brought to our attention by a UK resident who recently lost £2,000 after paying a deposit to a bogus landlord for an apartment in Dubai.
This victim of the scam had been contacted after seeing the property listed on a Dubai rental website and received an email containing several references to FindaProperty requesting that payment be made.
If you receive any emails linking FindaProperty.com with any sort of rental deposit protection (or similar) schemes and in particular if you are then asked to pay a deposit before signing a tenancy contract, then beware:
